When you’re faced with an unexpected opportunity, you run the risk of missing it if you’re not prepared. You don’t always know when, where or how opportunities will present themselves and that’s why it is so important to be ready, willing and able to answer the call when it does show up. If you’re not, the opportunity will inevitably move on to someone else who is.
Preparing for opportunities has nothing to do with chasing opportunities. When you chase opportunities, you’ll always fall short because you’re too busy chasing and not spending enough time preparing by focusing on what you really want. Being able to find the opportunities is great, but if you’re not adequately prepared to seize it what’s the point.
“Opportunity does not waste time with those who are unprepared.”

To prepare for opportunities you need to focus your attention on a few key skills or interests that you imagine the opportunities will look like. You need to decide on what you want to focus on and put your energy and effort into developing, learning and growing into those skills and interests. And by preparing for them, you’ll find that the opportunities will eventually find you.
Increasing your knowledge and developing the necessary skills for the opportunities you seek is how you will prepare yourself for when the time does come to jump at the right opportunity. The important thing to remember is that even though you can’t always control what opportunities come to you, you can control how prepared you are for them when they do.
