There Are Different Ways to Invest in Yourself

“Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you’re not intentional with the things that you do, life just happens to you. Going through your day-to-day routines, your children, your significant other, your job, and even your dog always seem to come first. But it’s important to remember your well-being. Your inner and outer self is just as important and should be your priority, in order that you could be the very best version of yourself.

For you to be the best version of yourself means making time for yourself. Choosing to take care of yourself first so that you can do what it takes to be a better you. You need to invest in yourself. To invest in yourself is something that can be accomplished in many different ways. And the investment doesn’t always have to require money, but it will always require time.

There Are Different Ways to Invest in Yourself

Although your time may sometimes seem to be “free”, consider time to be a precious commodity and your most valuable resource. So, what better way to use your most precious commodity than to use it to invest in yourself! It may sound selfish to put yourself first, but the reality is the better you to take care of yourself, the better you will be to take care of other people.

The investments you make in yourself, whether it’s time and/or money will not only be a benefit to you. But what you’ll find is that it will also benefit other parts of your life as well. Like your children, your significant other, your job, etc. As you improve yourself it will inevitably affect other aspects of your life. You can only truly improve the quality of your life by improving yourself first!

“A learning curve is essential to growth.” –Tammy Bjelland

So, investing in yourself is about spending time and/or money to improve yourself. There are various areas and various reasons to invest in yourself. One area you might want to work on or improve, for example may be physical, to have more energy or stay active with your children. You may want to lose weight, have more muscle tone or just eat healthier.

Whatever the area or reason is that you want to improve will require you to invest the time and/or money necessary to learn what to do and how to do it, through research or hiring a personal trainer or nutritionist. Then of course there’s the actual doing. The act of applying those things that you researched and learned. Or executing the instructions and programs of the experts you hired.

All of that…learning and applying… is the investment you make in yourself. If you’re looking to improve your finances, you invest in buying books, taking an accounting class, attend a seminar or hire a financial planner. You would study, learn and apply your new knowledge to improve your situation. That formula is what achieves personal growth and allows change to take place.

The time and money spent is an investment in yourself! Pursuing higher education to gain specialized knowledge or to gain a higher position within a company is an investment in yourself. These are just a few examples of how taking time and/or money to invest in yourself can improve who and where you are. What you want to improve may change, but how to do it stays the same.

“When we do the best that we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life, or in the life of another.” – Helen Keller

The misconception of investing in yourself is that it’s all about you! Although the primary focus is on you, there are residual benefits. The thing about investing in yourself is that as you improve in the areas you’ve invested in. You will also set a good example to others around you. And you will be an inspiration to those who take notice and they may possibly even follow your lead.

That’s one of the ways investing in yourself can have the affect of being a benefit to others you come into contact with. To invest in yourself plays a tremendous part in improving any area of your life and the importance of it can’t be emphasized enough. If you want to improve a certain aspect of your life, you have to start with you. Be the change you want to see.

Carefully and intentionally making that commitment to invest in yourself is what will ultimately allow you to achieve success in whatever goals you’re striving to attain. An investment in learning is one of the best investments you can make for yourself. That doesn’t mean it has to be a formal education. It could be as simple as picking up a book to gain new insight or knowledge.

The key to self improvement is to always be learning. If you don’t take the time or spend the money to invest in yourself, then you can’t achieve success in any area of your life. And improving yourself doesn’t just affect you, but it also affects those around you. Just remember, if you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. But, if you are determined to learn, no one can stop you!
