Financial Success Requires Having Patience

“Like farmers we need to learn that we cannot sow and reap the same day.”– Anonymous

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of seeing the success of other people and wondering why you’re not there yet. Much of that comes down to patience. Patience is a virtue. Who hasn’t heard those words before? Those words are deeply rooted in many of our minds. Unfortunately, the behavior, the true practice of patience is just another personality trait which has fallen by the wayside.

More than likely, your hurried, over-scheduled way of life where everything has to happen instantly is taking its toll on the willingness to be patient and working things out. Living during a time where you have so much instant gratification in almost every part of your life, it causes you to not have patients. Especially, for those things that don’t happen as quickly as you want or expect.

Financial Success Requires Having Patience

You want it done and you want it done NOW! You don’t have time to wait…it shouldn’t take this long! So even when things that naturally take time don’t meet your expectations you become frustrated and give up. But, just like any type of success in life, even when it comes to your finances and your financial freedom, having patience is an important trait that you need to learn and practice.

Although, the ironic thing with practicing patience is that it takes patience to practice it. On the flip side of that, here’s the great thing about patience. Practicing it in one area of your life will help with learning patience for other areas of your life. The idea of being patient has in a way become a lost art. Even so, it’s a critical trait you’ll need to have for success on your journey to financial freedom.

“Patience is waiting. Not passively waiting. That is laziness. But to keep going when the going is hard and slow – that is patience.” – Unknown

I’m sure you often live your life like there’s never enough time to accomplish the things you need to get done. And in many aspects of your life that may seem to be true. You feel like you can’t get enough of it and you could always use having more. So, when something seems to take longer than it should or longer than you expected, you might have the tendency to give up.

It’s this dynamic which you encounter on an all too often basis that causes you to lose perspective on the habit of having patience. When you’re in a world where so much is at your fingertips and available to you so rapidly, even almost instantly, it diminishes your ability to be patient. Just think about the last time you lost your patience because a web page you were browsing took too long to load.

Losing your patience because you feel like you don’t have enough time to get things done is for another subject on time management. For the purpose of your financial well-being and financial freedom, time and patience need to be looked at a little differently. The journey to financial success needs to be thought of more like a marathon and not like a sprint.

To achieve financial freedom, you need to realize and understand that it takes time. It takes a long time (years, decades) to reach a place of financial independence. And that’s provided that you take the right steps along the way. Along with that, it takes patience to get you through the journey. Without patience, you will never reach your goals and achieve success.

“Patience can’t be acquired overnight. It is just like building up a muscle. Every day you need to work on it.” – Eknath Easwaran

When you’re young you don’t always realize the value of time, specifically as it relates to money. The fact is that time is your most valuable commodity when it comes to creating wealth. That means you need to take advantage as soon as possible, early on in life to really reap the benefits it offers. But that doesn’t mean your situation is hopeless if you haven’t.

The earlier you start with good money habits and practicing having patience along the way, the sooner you will achieve the financial freedom you desire. Actually, there is no bad time to start with good money habits and practicing patients. No matter where you are on your journey, whether you started early or whether you started late in life, patients is a major requirement either way.

So, regardless of whatever point you may be in your life right now, it’s never too late to start with those good money habits. You shouldn’t let that discourage you from ever starting. Just always remember the importance of practicing patience, because that is the main ingredient in the recipe. Without it you’ll end up giving up and you won’t get to where you want to be.

The most successful people in the world who you recognize for their success didn’t get there overnight. You’re only seeing the results of the many years of efforts, habits, discipline, etc. Those are the things that got them to reach their high levels of achievement. At some point in their journey, they were where you are now, because every expert was once a beginner. You need to always remember that!
