“I will prepare and someday my chance will come.” ― Abraham Lincoln
If you’re not prepared when you’re suddenly faced with an opportunity, you’ll most likely miss it. That’s why you have to prepare for them before they show up. You might even be living your life hoping for that big opportunity to come your way. You dream of what you would or could do if you were given a chance. Stop living a life of “I would” or “I could” and start living a life of I will!
I’m sure there have been plenty of times when you had opportunities that were right in your hands, and you blew it! You blew it because you weren’t prepared. Sometimes things don’t happen as fast as you would like. But, you shouldn’t let that discourage you from preparing yourself for future opportunities. And by preparing for opportunities, you’ll find that opportunities will come to you.
Don’t Just Sit There, Prepare for Opportunities
When you really think about it, it doesn’t make much sense to imagine and go after certain dreams or expectations of success without putting in the time or effort to prepare for it. And most often it’s not because you can’t put in the time or effort, it’s actually because you don’t really believe it’s possible. Belief is a very important and powerful part of the formula when it comes to your imagination.
So, the first step after imagining the opportunity, is to believe it IS possible. And some, if not all of that belief will come from preparing for it! Don’t just sit on the hope of what you would do if you were given an opportunity. Believe that the opportunity you’re envisioning will come and take the steps to prepare yourself for when it does. You’ll be glad you did!
“Opportunity does not waste time with those who are unprepared.” ― Idowu Koyenikan
When you’re faced with an unexpected opportunity, you run the risk of missing it if you’re not prepared. You don’t always know when, where or how opportunities will present themselves and that’s why it is so important to be ready, willing and able to answer the call when it does show up. If you’re not, the opportunity will inevitably move on to someone else who is.
Preparing for opportunitieshas nothing to do with chasing opportunities. When you chase opportunities, you’ll always fall short because you’re too busy chasing and not spending enough time preparing by focusing on what you really want. Being able to find the opportunities is great, but if you’re not adequately prepared to seize it what’s the point.
To prepare for opportunities you need to focus your attention on a few key skills or interests that you imagine the opportunities will look like. You need to decide on what you want to focus on and put your energy and effort into developing, learning and growing into those skills and interests. And by preparing for them, you’ll find that the opportunities will eventually find you.
Increasing your knowledge and developing the necessary skills for the opportunities you seek is how you will prepare yourself for when the time does come to jump at the right opportunity. The important thing to remember is that even though you can’t always control what opportunities come to you, you can control how prepared you are for them when they do.
“It is not often that a man can make opportunities for himself. But he can put himself in such shape that when or if the opportunities come, he is ready.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
The health of your financial future depends on being prepared for opportunities, especially when it comes to saving to invest. When you focus on saving to invest, you may not always know what investment opportunity will come along. But, having the cash on hand ready to go is a huge advantage when the opportunity does come.
By focusing on specific types of investments, you can prepare yourself by educating yourself through reading, listening, workshops, seminars, etc. so when the time is right, you’re ready! There are an endless variety of investment vehicles out there. That’s why focusing on the specific types that interest you is an important key factor when preparing for the opportunities you’re envisioning.
Preparing for opportunities takes a combination of many things. Some of which include, self discipline, delayed gratification and sacrifice, good money habits, a positive mental attitude and the ability to embrace change just to name a few. Don’t sell yourself short by telling yourself that you don’t have what it takes to seize the right opportunity. Start with small manageable steps and the rest will follow.
Without those things, preparation for financial opportunities will be difficult and without preparation you risk the chance of missing them. Belief in yourself and belief in your dream becomes strengthened through preparation. Just remember that success comes at the crossroads where preparation and opportunity meet. So, make sure you’re ready for when that time comes!
