Don’t Give Up, Try This Instead

“I am not the richest, smartest or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going.” – Sylvester Stallone

Success is on the other side of failure! Don’t give up just because it doesn’t come easily. The ability to keep trying when things seem impossible, to push past your comfort zone, to not give up when it gets difficult, almost always leads to success. The great thing about the idea of not giving up is just that…it’s an idea! It requires no higher education, no monetary investment and no formal training.

The only thing required is a change in mindset. It’s all in your thinking, it’s how you perceive your challenges, it’s how you look at your failures. Do you see them as hopeless, or do you see them as a learning experience? Now of course that is always easier said than done. But the fact is that you already have that don’t give up mindset within you. You just need to rediscover and develop it.

Don’t Give Up, Try This Instead

It’s the same mindset you were given from birth that you used to be able to learn how to walk, talk, read and write. It’s only as you got older that you allowed struggles, setbacks and failures to diminish that mindset and you found that giving up is easier than being patient and pushing through. Could you imagine if you had given up after falling a few times when learning how to walk?

That same persistence and perseverance is still there. And it wasn’t meant to only be utilized to get you started in life. It’s a part of you that was intended to be used throughout your life! So, knowing you are already equipped with the right tools is half the battle. The other half will be making use of it as it was intended, to achieve your goals.

“Slow, steady progress is better than daily excuses.” – Robin Sharma

Giving up is one of the biggest reasons people don’t find success in the things they’re striving for. Fortunately, it’s a mindset that can be developed. One of the main ingredients to developing the “don’t give up” mindset is setting smaller, manageable, attainable goals. What you’ll find by achieving the small goals is that each small goal will lead to and build up to a larger goal.

The small steps taken to reach the smaller goals will help to give you the motivation and confidence you’ll need to keep moving forward. Not every step will be successful, so you have to be prepared to experience some failures along the way. The thing to remember is to keep a positive mental attitude and realize that you can learn from your failures.

Failing at something is not the end, it’s actually the beginning. Failing is the opportunity to start over again more intelligently by learning from your mistakes, making adjustments and trying again. The most successful people you know are also the ones who have had the most failures. If you see your failures as a lesson that can help to improve your progress, that’s what will keep you going.

There simply cannot be success without failure. Failure is a part of the process for success. Failure is not something you should fear, but something you should expect if you want to be successful in anything you do. So, breakdown your larger goals into smaller goals to help develop the “don’t give up” mindset. Look at your failures as learning experiences and keep making forward progress!

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.” – Samuel Beckett

Just because you feel as though you don’t have the natural talent to be good at something, doesn’t mean you can’t be successful at it. Will it take more failure? Will it take more work to learn and persevere? Sure! But, even when you use your natural strengths to pursue something, you will still be challenged and face failures. The key to all success is to not give up.

So, whether you build on your natural talents or not, failure will always be a part of the process. The only difference will be the number of challenges and failures you will have to overcome. And no matter how many there are, the only way to overcome them is all in how you choose look at it. By looking at them as lessons to be learned, you can make adjustments to your mistakes and try again.

No matter what, the right mindset to not give up is always the same. Learn from your failures, make adjustments, try again, rinse and repeat. And don’t compare your progress to the progress of someone else. Especially those who make it look easy. Success rarely comes easy and those that make it look easy do so because of how they respond and react to their setbacks and challenges.

Always remember that you have that same ability to choose the right mindset for how you respond and react to your failures. Keep in mind that it’s more like a marathon and not a sprint. Just keep making forward progress and you’ll get there. Set your financial goals, choose the mindset of growth by anticipating and learning from failure, keep moving forward and…DON’T GIVE UP!
