How to Begin with the End in Mind

“Create a vision for the life you really want and then work relentlessly towards making it a reality.” ― Roy T. Bennett

When you think about the idea of wanting to achieve financial success, one of the first questions you probably ask yourself is, “how are you going to get there?” And where is “there” exactly? If you’re not asking yourself those two questions, then you really need to. And sometimes the thought of asking those questions can be so overwhelming that you just don’t know where to start.

It is exactly at that point that you need to begin with the end in mind. It’s at that point when two very important principles need to begin to happen. First you create what you want in your mind by envisioning how you want your future to look. Then you can create the reality of that vision by taking the necessary actions to bring that vision to life. It’s the process of two creations.

How to Begin with the End in Mind

The first creation happens in your imagination and the second happens when you take action to create it physically. If you don’t make a conscious effort to visualize who you want to be and where you want to go in life, then you give up your power to other people and circumstances to shape your life for you. Too many people let life happen to them instead of taking control.

Don’t be a victim of your circumstances, live your life with a plan and a purpose. By starting with how you want your future to look, you can then work your way back to where you currently are, which will help you to bring your goals into focus. Keep working back from each goal with a smaller more manageable goal until it’s a small enough goal that you believe is attainable. And that’s where you start!

“A goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.” ― Bruce Lee

Goal setting requires having an imagination so that you can envision what you want your future to look like. By establishing goals based on your vision, it gives you real targets to shoot for. And as you achieve your goals you will move your vision closer and closer to reality. But nothing in your imagination or your vision can ever become reality unless you take the necessary action.

What you’ll find as you create your goals from beginning with the end in mind is that each goal builds to the next as it requires its own set of goals. It’s also important to note and understand that these goals are not fixed. They can and should be changed and adjusted as life changes may be affected by major events along your journey.

As you know, the journey to financial well-being and financial freedom is a marathon, not a sprint. So, the likelihood of needing to adjust your goals is great, which means you should also be prepared to embrace the changes you will encounter. This is not referring to your end goal, but the smaller goals that lead you toward your big, end goal that may require the adjustments along the way.

Although adjustments will be needed, it’s also important to stay focused on the end goal, so that any adjustments that are made to your short-term goals continue to stay in line with your end goal. Don’t give up on what you’ve envisioned for your future no matter how challenging things may seem. Set goals, stay flexible, have discipline and patience and develop a positive mental attitude!

“Fully inhale your dream and completely exhale manifestation of it.”
― T.F. Hodge

The thought of setting goals can sometimes be challenging, but it’s necessary if you’re going to achieve financial success. Envisioning what you want your future to look like is the easiest place to start. By beginning with the end in mind, it gives you your direction. That sense of direction is what will keep you on your path during a long and challenge filled journey.

Without a sense of direction, you will lose sight of who you want to be, where you want to go and what you need to do to get there. Without direction and a plan, you will inevitably give up because of frustrations and failures. Too many people let life happen to them instead of taking control and living with intention. With a vision, goals and a plan, you’ll be able to take control of your life.

You need to understand and remember that your dream and vision of financial freedom isn’t just an end result of what you want. It’s also the first building block in getting started. This is where thoughts become things! It all starts in your mind…with your imagination and then it takes action to bring it to life. A dream without a plan is just a wish. Don’t just dream…DO!

When you begin with the end in mind, you will have taken the first step to creating your reality. And you will be able to set and accomplish your goals more easily. Don’t be a victim of your circumstances, live your life with a plan and a purpose. Start with how you want your future to look, then work your way back to where you currently are, which will help to bring your goals into focus.
